Ibimet on Climate Change

The Institute of Biometeorology is strongly engaged on climate change topics and the related impacts on ecosystems focusing on three major fields of activities.

1. Research and Development
Basic and applied research in the area of climate and ecosystems sciences and scenarios development.
- Dynamical climate modelling;
- Trends of the global and regional climate;
- Free Air CO2 enrichment experiments;
- Mass and energy flux measurements;
- Terrestrial carbon balance ;
- Impacts analysis on agricultural systems and forets;
- Bio-monitoring of forestry and wildlife;
- Development of technology for environmental monitoring;
- Climate and human health.

2. Technical Assistance
Ibimet assists local authorities, institutional entities and private companies for the implementation of efficient environmental policies by mean of operational products and services on:
- Land and forestry management;
- Renewable energy exploitation;
- GHG emission accounting;
- Emission reductions strategies (LULUCF, CDM, JI and Emission Trading)
- Meteorological forecasting and natural disaster prevention.

3. Sustainable Development and capacity building in developing countries
Since 1986 Ibimet works in the developing countries on different fields of activities:
- Early warning systems for food security;
- Analysis of the vulnerability to combat desertification;
- Monitoring and evaluation of natural resources;
- CDM and JI pilot projects;
- Advanced training for applied meteorology WMO.
